Who knew such a cool collection of cars would show up to a small show in Cincinnati? I thought I’d share some of the cool with you all. Some of my favorites:
A 1972 Magnus Walker Porsche 911 “STR”. A former Road & Track featured car. Recently sold for $300,000 at auction. I love the color scheme on this one. Sort of Gulf-ish, but not all out.
Anyone interested in a 1961 Kenny Howard (aka “Von Dutch”) Rocket Car? My 3 and 1/2 year old son (not pictured) declared this one his favorite. I can’t blame him. What kid wouldn’t want a spaceship for a car?
Next up, a replica of a 30s Dymaxion Car. Designed by Buckminster Fuller. When I look at this, I can’t help thinking maybe Bucky was just 100 years ahead of his time. This has to be the leading candidate for what self-driving cars evolve into, right?
How cool is this one? A 1966 Abarth OT 1300 Periscopio Coupe. Simply breathtaking in person. I’m a sucker for a curvy 60s Italian coupe in red. Plus, SNORKEL!
Another cool one. 1957 Kurtis 500SX. Raced in the ‘57 Mille Miglia! Had a wonderful sound when revved.
Another view.
JDM REPRESENT! A 1971 BRE Datsun 510.
Something a bit more modern, perhaps? 1999 R&S Mk III ALMS car. I noticed it had the same cross-eyed center lights as the McLaren F1 I saw on here a few weeks back (they are under the plexiglass panel in the center).
Any open wheel fans? They had you covered. An Indy car from 1979.
I’m not generally a huge fan of pre-war cars, but I will make a major exception for Auburns. This Boattail Speedster from the 30s is why. Sex on wheels, right there.
DAT BOATTAIL!
A cool little 356. Understated in comparison to some of the other cars in the show, but still showstopping. I have a very soft spot for these cars.
BOOM. Awesomeness defined. A 1966 Ferrari 206 SP Dino. Raced in the 1966 LeMans.
And the back...
Got to see my first 918 Spyder in the flesh. The owner said the sticker was $1.1 million, “mostly in paint.”
I have to say, as cool as it was, I get why Ferrari made the choice not to let the LaFerrari run on battery only. Watching this thing pull out with no noise was a damn shame and left many in the crowd shaking their heads. I want to hear dead dino roars, damn it!
Also a first time for me to see a 4c in the flesh. The local Fiat dealer brought a couple in addition to this one, so I even got to sit in one (and almost kill myself trying to climb back out). This car is BEGGING for a manual. It felt so wrong to sit in one and not have my right hand resting on a shifter.
Wait, what’s this Corvette doing here? Not sure what that horse is doing on there. Must be some kind of special edition.
A 1971 MG BGT in BRG. I kind of want one of these now.
Sticking with the Brits. A 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II
Now we are talking. A 1979 BMW Alpina B6. All the dash switches were in German in this one. Very cool.
Another personal favorite. A 1990 BMW M3 Sport Evolution DTM homologation car. Spectacular. 1 of 600 made. Just became legal in the U.S. this year.
Mercedes was the featured marque this year, so I knew there would be one or two of these beauties roaming around.
I thought that was it for the show and I was pretty happy with my haul of car spotting, but look what I stumbled across just randomly parked on the street on the way out! It wasn’t even part of the show. A real life unicorn! Rossion Q1.
And my absolute favorite part of the show:
Spending the day with my wife and our 1 and 1/2 kids.

Yeah. I was soaked by the time I left and my rapidly thinning hair up top left me with a pretty good burn on my scalp. It was completely worth it though.

Not a bad show anywhere. Amazing for Cinci.

Great pics and coverage, and quite a nicely eclectic mix.
BTW, the 356 coupe is a rare Porsche 356B Carrera GTL Abarth coupé. The Abarth that is more well known to be associated with Fiat.

Yeah. I had no idea at the time. I just love those cars.
I had lunch with a friend of mine today who attended an event at the local Porsche dealer the night before this show. He told me that 356 is a $6 million car and that Magnus Walker drove it from the dealer up to the car show location.

So, I just realized this in looking at the photos again. I was so busy checking out the car that I missed Magnus Walker hanging out next to it. Oops!

That dino! Vintage racing liveries are the best. They always involve such great sweeping lines/color combos
